Description:

Summary: The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the Big Sur Health Center, a small rural health clinic on the central California coast. The ED reports to the board of directors and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its Mission, Vision, Values, and Financial objectives. The ED will lead the organization in its long-range strategic objectives towards which it makes consistent and timely progress.

Qualifications: The ED will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a medically related field: patient care, clinical management, budgeting and staffing. Preferred experience would include leadership in the nonprofit sector. The ideal candidate has clinical training, such as RN, NP, PA, MD, or has worked in and is comfortable leading in a clinical setting. 

Please note the current ED is retiring.  Once onboard, the new ED and the retiring ED will formulate a transition plan and timeline.

The ED will be responsible for overseeing and leading the following:  

  • Budgeting and fiscal responsibilities include working with
    • Bookkeeping to plan and budget
    • Board of directors to approve budgets
    • Grant writer to identify funding sources for operational and program needs 
  • Human resources 
    • Evaluate and monitor salary, wages, and benefits
    • Recruit Quality Personnel and maintain competitive compensation
    • Provide training as needed
    • Update employee handbook
    • Monitor employee licensing and credentialing
  • Managed Care programs 
    • Evaluate quality and programmatic measures
    • Work with external biller and health centers billing Specialists to assure accurate billing and coding
    • Work with billing specialist to improve quality and programmatic measured outcomes
  • Legal/Compliance
    • Maintain all legal requirements are met including  credentialing, licenses and reports
    • Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal state and local regulations 
  • Manuals and training materials 
    • Review and update the facilities operational manuals including P&P, emergency preparedness, HIPAA, OSHA, and lab P&P
  • Communication 
    • Maintain regular and ongoing communication with staff, providers, and medical director
  • Community engagement 
    • Maintain open communication with businesses and others in the community
    • Advocate for patients, field questions and or issues as they arise
  • Networking 
    • Maintain ongoing relationships and Communications with Community leaders, Foundation personnel, ED's of other philanthropic organizations, Grant officers, Etc
  • Health Center events planning 
    • Work with BoD Outreach committee on annual events, including health fair
    • Work with foragers committee as needed
    • Work with board of directors to develop new programs
  • Fund development
    • Work with BoD fund development committee to identify and Implement donor engagement
    • Help define short, medium and long term financial needs and use of funds
    • Review, sign, and mail all letters sent to donors. 
  • Board of directors coordination 
    • Maintain an open and productive relationship with all members of the board of directors. attend Board of director meetings, including committee meetings. act as a liaison between staff and board as needed.
  • Quality control 
    • Work with staff to assure best practices are defined and followed and quality of care is evaluated on a regular and ongoing basis
