REPORTS TO: Executive Director 

FULL-TIME, EXEMPT Evenings and weekends required as necessary 

LOCATION : Santa Cruz with off site responsibilities 

SALARY - $80,000-$85,000

PURPOSE AND MISSION: The Diversity Center (TDC) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 located in Santa Cruz County and was founded in 1989 to fill a vision which still exists: to create a healthy, vibrant, and diverse intergenerational LGBTQ+ community, safe and secure in their persons, schools, work, and homes; fueled by a spirit of collaboration with each other and the greater community. The Diversity Center inspires and advocates for the LGBTQ+ people of Santa Cruz and Monterey counties by providing critical services, spaces, education, and events that enhance our community's well-being allowing individuals to build resiliency and thrive.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Community Engagement is a full-time exempt position responsible for ensuring The Diversity Center has an active presence in the local community by: overseeing a thriving and comprehensive community center; providing a training and educational outreach program; planning engaging events & initiatives, and building volunteer capacity. This role acts as a liaison between TDC and the community, as well as the manager of the Volunteer and Training Coordinator and the Center Operations Coordinator.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following and other duties as assigned. In a small team such as this, all staff work interconnectedly and collaboratively with each other. Staff work together to ensure events and programs are properly staffed and supported.

Community Center 

● Provide vision, oversight and direction for the community center. Ensure that resources are available, clients receive services, operations are running optimally, and that the space is used robustly for mission aligned activities. 

● Oversee staff and volunteers ensuring adequate coverage so that the center is open to the wider community during business hours. Ensure community agreements and safety is adhered to at all times. 

● Oversee and approve community partner programs and use agreements. 

● Assess current and future community needs, solicit input from stakeholders, and deliver population-specific and culturally relevant outreach programs that are in alignment with the Center`s mission and strategic priorities established by the Board of Directors.

● Manage TDC outreach and respond to requests for presence at regional events (tabling, displays, material, etc). 

● Oversee ambassador team of staff and volunteers to represent TDC at various events, fairs, expo, marches, etc. 

● Maintain public relations outreach supplies such as tabling swag items, give-aways, branded stock items, etc. 

● With the support of communications staff, develop event displays and promotional material. 

● Partner with the program team to provide leadership that supports the execution of large community events. 

● Establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with community partners and local businesses. Volunteer Program Management 

● Manage Volunteer Coordinator and oversee volunteer program. Ensure TDC has a solid volunteer development program with a strategy that inspires participants to feel an ongoing sense of purpose, meaning and belonging. 

● Ensure each step in the volunteer management cycle is in place and functioning optimally, including: volunteer policies and procedures, needs assessment, recruiting, screening, training, scheduling, communicating, feedback, appreciating, and retention. 

● Support onsite volunteer management at larger events and gatherings. Education & Training Program Management 

● Oversee the LGBTQ+ cultural competency training and education program and staff. 

● With Training Coordinator, create a comprehensive education strategy for outreach targeting governmental agencies, education institutions, healthcare systems, and other community nonprofits. 

● Serve as a lead trainer and/or group moderator with a comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and ability to deliver content. 

● Ensure community training inquiries receive follow up and are scheduled. 

● Ensure all grant training obligations and are supported through our theory of change.

Management, Administration and Operations 

● Provide high caliber management of staff, training facilitators, interns and volunteers: consistent meetings, 1:1 check ins, annual evaluations & feedback, clear communication, appreciation, timelines, accountability, etc… 

● Ensure all activity adheres to methods of tracking, data collection and evaluation as established by TDC best practices. 

● Ensure program compliance with all laws, regulations, organizational policies and procedures, and funding guidelines. 

● Participate in staffing TDC programs, events, and meetings as requested. 

● Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Effective qualities include confidence, self-directed, results-oriented, high performing, and creative problem solving. To be fully aligned with this position, you must have an unwavering passion for supporting the LGBTQ+ community with a cultural sensitivity. Necessary experience includes: 

● English/Spanish bilingual skill highly desired. 

● Three plus years working as a significant contributor within a nonprofit that is focused on creating positive impact. 

● Three plus years facilitating groups, delivering educational trainings and/or public speaking. 

● Experience successfully managing people. 

● Organizing and executing events, documenting steps, creating timelines and delegating tasks to supporting team members. 

● Extroverted personality that excels at building relationships and inspiring engagement. 

● General working knowledge of Google Workspace & database management. 

● BA/BS degree or higher. 

● Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required. 

● Solid experience with data collection for grant reporting. 

● Valid Driver`s License, access to a vehicle and vehicle insurance required. 

● Must pass a background check.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Highlights include:
