"Seasonal Staff" Recruiter - Part Time Featured

Mount Hermon Association, Inc. ("MHA"), has an immediate part-time opening for a Human Resources (“HR”) Coordinator. Mount Hermon is a 400-acre Conference Center and Camp nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains.

The Seasonal Staff Recruiter coordinates and facilitates the recruitment, placement and administration activities for all Summer Staff (“SS”), Outdoor Science School (“OSS”) and Intern positions in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

The successful applicant will be a mature follower of Christ, still growing and developing in their faith, fully in accord with MHA's mission, vision, values, committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.

Key Job Accountabilities

  • Oversee and act as subject matter expert for the online application and onboarding platform and process, including training other MHA staff.

  • Partner with hiring managers/supervisors to strategize and implement workforce planning needs and activities, including but not limited to, posting SS and OSS employment and Intern requisitions in a timely manner and coordinating candidate interview activities, (distributing information and materials to candidates and MHA supervisors) in preparation for interviews.

  • Coordinate SS recruiting efforts, including developing timelines and coordinating travel schedules with MHA staff for recruiting trips, participating in recruiting trips as needed, coordinating with college and universities to develop recruiting efforts, including on campus visits, posting jobs online and providing marketing materials, and working with Marketing staff to develop SS marketing materials.

  • Communicate with supervisors regarding hiring logistics, performance evaluations, housing, etc., for SS and OSS Staff.

  • Oversee the distribution, collection, processing and retention of personnel forms for SS and OSS staff, as well as for Interns and document recruiting processes, prepare reports and provide metrics to management as needed.

  • Provide applicant tracking software training to SS, OSS and Intern hiring managers annually.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Human Resources to work with hiring supervisors and seasonal leaders to ensure compliance with employment and labor laws as well as to ensure a positive environment and spiritual growth for SS and OSS staff and Interns and their communities.

  • Handle administrative details when HR Coordinator is not present including, but not limited to, processing personnel documents and assisting managers and walk-ins, etc.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Human Resources.

  • Some college preferred.

Work Experience

  • 1-2 years’ prior experience in sourcing, recruiting, and screening applicants and providing recommendations to hiring managers required.

  • Previous camp experience desirable.

  • Previous experience in an administrative setting essential.

  • Experience with applicant tracking and on-boarding software desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills—ability to handle a busy and demanding work environment in a diplomatic, efficient and graceful manner.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Google based applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Google Docs)  with an aptitude and ability to learn new software programs and database platforms.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Must possess high orientation to detail.

  • Knowledge and understanding of current employment and labor laws helpful.

  • Ability to use a combination of intuition and reasoned judgment in assessing suitability of candidates regarding theological and cultural fit as well as job-related criteria.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and ability to troubleshoot issues independently with minimum supervision; ability to respond quickly to changes.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and escalate issues to supervisor as needed.

  • Knowledge and awareness of camp regulations and how changes may influence staffing and/or training a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Requires sitting for extended periods performing data entry and other keyboarding activities;

  • Requires standing, squatting, stooping, and twisting;

  • Requires the ability to lift/carry 25 lbs.

  • The physical environment requires the employee to occasionally work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Additional Requirements/Skills

  • Occasional travel required, particularly in the fall and spring, for college recruiting activities.

  • Attendance at various staff activities required throughout the year.

  • Vacation black out period between May 1 – June 22

  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA's Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.

  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.

  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
