Camp Program Coordinator

Assists in planning, development and operational management of ESCC camp and recreation programs. Responsible for daily operation of camp activities, compliance with all applicable health codes, contracts, agreements and vendors. Assists in hiring, training, and supervising camp staff.

Hours of Work:
Part-Time, hourly during the months of September-April. Full-Time, hourly during the months of May-August. Standard work week with occasional hours outside of the standard workday. When camp is in session, this position involves a variable schedule, including weekends and evenings, with possible overnights at camp. Pay is $18.50/hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit User Groups to rent camp facilities during non-summer dates to maximize full site potential
  • Negotiate and manage contracts related to Camp and Recreation programs, including those for any and all User Groups renting camp facilities
  • Support HR in the staff recruitment process to ensure all organizational process and procedures are followed.
  • Coordinate and manage staff hiring, training, etc.
  • Develop and monitor Camp and Recreation Department budget, code bills/receipts and income, and ensure accuracy of monthly financial statements
  • Research and develop Volunteer Services Program. Recruit, train, supervise and maintain accountability for volunteer experience and retention. Work with staff to maximize participation and effective use of volunteers for all programs
  • Monitor all aspects of Camp and Recreation programs to ensure compliance with program plans and grant requirements.
  • Coordinate recruitment of campers; oversee online registration, assessment and evaluation
  • Work with parents and caregivers to ensure good communication, safety and quality of all services within Camp and Recreation programs
  • Work with public and private agencies on development, coordination, and marketing of Camp and Recreation activities
  • Work with Marketing Department to promote services and develop materials; review, update and monitor Marketing task list with regard to Camp and Recreation Services
  • Represent ESCC within professional organizations and committees that serve individuals with disabilities, as required.
  • Assist in developing plan for AmeriCorps program and grant proposals, including program expansion
  • Participate in ESCC public relations and special events, Camp fundraising events, and related activities as required
  • Other duties as assigned.


BA degree in Outdoor Education or related field plus 3 years’ experience in the camping field equivalent including experience in supervision, staff recruitment and experience with programming activities.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to perform analysis, develop executive level reports, presentations, proposals and highly sensitive correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, managers, clients, customers, board of directors of ESCC.

Mathematical Skills:
Conversant with the mathematics needed in business analysis, including business statistics, ratios and extrapolation of data. Ability to do basic calculations with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to develop and understand business charts and graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply advanced understanding to carry out instructions involving complex employee situations. Ability to deal with problems involving many variables in non-standardized situations. Extreme discretion and excellent judgement.

Computer/Technology Skills:
Computer literate on the PC, including the use of Outlook email, Microsoft Word, Excel, ADP and learn other software as needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current CPR/First Aid Certification. Current California Driver’s license and valid automobile insurance. TB clearance (renewable every four years) and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.

Other Skills, Abilities, Requirements or Qualifications:
Willingness and ability to work an intense schedule during times that Camp is in session.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
