About the Position: The full-time, tenure track instructor will enjoy a 175-Day work schedule and will teach all levels of lower division Spanish courses, including Spanish for heritage speakers, courses in Hispanic civilization, Hispanic literature, and film. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate in department activities including curriculum development, study abroad, and to participate in department and college governance.
The position begins on Monday, August 17, 2020, pending Governing Board ratification. Classes may be in a traditional "in class" setting, online or hybrid format, scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends.
About the Department: The World Languages department offers courses in American Sign Language (ASL), French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. All World Languages faculty are committed to learner-centered methodologies that emphasize cultural sensitivity and successful language acquisition.
We are searching for an experienced and talented full-time Spanish instructor to join our team of three full-time and ten adjunct Spanish faculty members. The successful candidate must be an effective and innovative teacher, whose focus is on student learning and professional excellence.
About the College: Situated on Monterey Bay in the county of Santa Cruz, California, Cabrillo College is highly regarded for its success of transfer and career education, and currently serves over 11,400 students each semester. Cabrillo College transfers many of its students to three nearby universities – the University of California at Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and California State University at Monterey Bay. Starting Salary Range: $57,157 to $87,673 per year, salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule (Download PDF reader) is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $3,816 is granted to eligible faculty.

Examples of Duties
Teach assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments
Participate in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours
Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.
Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education recognized accredited organization:
• Master's degree in Spanish OR
• Bachelor's degree in Spanish AND Master's degree in another language or linguistics OR
• The equivalent OR
• A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in one of the above required fields

• Knowledge of and commitment to equity-minded and culturally responsive teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success
• Demonstrated responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning)
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
• Effective oral and written communication skills and effective use of technology
• Comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of, and experience with, current, effective second language acquisition methods
• Desired Qualifications/Performance Expectations:
• Successful teaching experience in a higher-education institution
• Successful online teaching experience
