Our Director of Human Resources is retiring at the end of 2020 after more than 30 years with Superior Foods International (SFI). This opens up an opportunity for an experienced HR professional to join our team this year. To ensure we find the ideal candidate for this important role and to allow for a smooth transition of responsibilities and transfer of empirical knowledge, we are starting a search for our future Director of Human Resources. As our future DHR you will be challenged with and responsible for the effective management and administration of HR for SFI. You will be tasked with developing, implementing and monitoring HR policies & procedures, ensuring they are aligned with overall company strategic objectives. You will provide guidance to top management on all aspects of HR Management including compensation, benefits, employee relations, recruiting & retention, succession planning and other initiatives related to our employees. This position requires an experienced generalist who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and do the work as a solo HR professional. The position has a career path to be a strategic partner to the SFI Executive Team.

Responsibilities include:

HR Management

  • Advise and guide management in effective development, interpretation and application of policies, programs, processes and compliance
  • Manages employee life cycle from new hire orientations to terminations
  • Manages all health and welfare benefits programs including enrollments, terminations, auditing and payment of premiums
  • Maintains records of HR data including turnover, attendance, performance development, training

Recruitment & Retention

  • Manages full recruitment process for open and future job requisitions (post, source, prescreen, schedule interviews, reference checks, offers, onboarding)
  • Collaborates with management staff to identify KPIs for talent management process and assess market competitiveness
  • Participates in career or job fairs to build talent pool
  • Participates in design and improvement of our performance appraisal and career development process
  • Identifies coaching or training needs and collaborates with management to develop programs that focus on goal achievement
  • Develops, initiates and maintains effective programs for retention, promotion and succession planning

Compensation & Benefits

  • Manages all benefits programs to ensure best mix of cost-effective total rewards to meet the organization's budget and to foster a culture to attract and retain top talent
  • Manages payroll functions, ensuring semi-monthly pay is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations and best practices
  • Maintains and monitors daily time and attendance records ensuring accuracy when exporting to payroll software
  • Researches, analyzes and recommends competitive compensation, benefits, performance management and employee incentive programs to attract and retain top talent
  • Reconciles monthly health insurance statements and remits payments to vendors
  • Manages the 401(k) retirement plan, audits payroll vendor's records to reconcile to employee deferrals and loans
  • Audits end of month payroll journal; Provides journal entry report to finance for the general ledger

Executive Administration

  • Provides administrative support to Managing Director and Executive Team
  • Maintains records/minutes for monthly meetings; sends follow ups after each meeting
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates setup of meetings and agendas for monthly Executive meetings and BOD meetings as needed
  • Responsible for regular internal corporate communications ensuring messaging is in line with management expectations

Experience needed: Bachelor's degree or equivalent HR Management experience (minimum 8 years); PHR-CA or SPHR-CA certification preferred.  

Skills needed:

  • Thorough understanding of recruiting methods and best practices
  • Time-management with proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient with payroll and/or HRIS software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information
