Involves managing or performing the administrative services or managing the full general operations of an academic or non-academic organization(s). Administrative services includes activities in finance and human resources and may also include IT, facilities, or student services. General management includes long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing all activities of multi-disciplinary departments through subordinate management staff.
Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the LSS Administrative Specialist will be responsible for Learning Support Services program business needs including administrative, human resources, financial, data analysis. The LSS Administrative Specialist will support the LSS office by providing support of LSS' tutoring sign-up system, LSS' database in FileMaker Pro, and streamline and document practices and procedures with technical tools. The LSS Administrative Specialist will prepare and analyze financial information in a precise, timely and user-friendly manner; they will refer to professional concepts to apply organizational policies and procedures to oversee a variety of ongoing administrative operational objectives and issues and make sound recommendations. They will be responsible for all financial processing, some writing reports, compiling data for program and budget analysis support in accordance to all UC policies in accordance with the Student Achievement & Equity Innovation (SAEI) business team for Learning Support Services. The LSS Administartive Specialist will have significant human resource responsibilities for students such as recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and timesheet and record keeping both staff and academic positions, and support in professional staff positions as well.
LSS offers small group course-specific tutoring, MSI, writing tutoring, and drop-in services for all undergraduate students at UCSC. Programs are grounded in educational theory that supports the academic development of students through these peer-led services that address and minimize educational equity issues. LSS provides academic support across all five divisions: Arts, School of Engineering, Humanities, Physical and Biological Sciences, and Social Sciences employing over 400 Peer Tutors each year and serving over 6,000 undergraduate students. LSS works closely with the Education Opportunity Program (EOP), Services to Transfer and Re-Entry Program (STARS), Disability Resource Center (DRC), Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives, and the colleges to increase the success rate of non-traditional students. LSS has an operating budget of approximately $1,100,000 funded by multiple sources including perment central funds, students fees, and grants.
