Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Facilities and Maintenance Specialist is an integral part of the school’s facilities operations. Responsibilities include maintenance and repairs to equipment and building systems to ensure the campus grounds and facilities are clean, safe, and functional at all times.
Being reliable with a collaborative, professional work ethic is required. The ideal candidate will have experience and solid technical knowledge and must also possess manual dexterity and physical stamina. Upon offer of employment, candidate will be required to complete a background check via LIVESCAN and submit current TB test results.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform minor repairs to buildings, HVAC, and grounds-keeping equipment. Must have basic skills in electric, plumbing, and carpentry
Assist with furniture and equipment set-ups and take-downs for meetings and events
Ability to use hand and power tools and equipment
Assemble and install appliances, furnishings and equipment
Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems
Collaborate with all members of school community in an articulate and courteous manner during completion of duties
Coordinate with subcontractors and outside vendors when required
Maintains OSHA compliance and MSDS sheets
Observes all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of Kirby School
Perform cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, trash collection, etc.
Perform any other duties deemed necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the school
Possess the skills necessary to keep assigned areas in a clean and orderly condition
Able to take direction from immediate supervisors and the Director of Operations
Able to complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner with limited supervision
Willing to participate in trainings and obtain certifications when required
Follow all applicable safety rules and help maintain a positive, safe work environment
Able to work in a cooperative way and interact in a positive manner with members of the Kirby School faculty, staff and administration, board, students, parents, and other community members
Demonstrates accuracy, integrity, trustworthiness and professionalism
Ability to consistently exhibit prompt, reliable and sustainable attendance
Have personal accountability for individual job performance and personal conduct
Will maintain a safe driving record in order to operate vehicles on school business
Proven experience in a similar position
Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
Experience using hand and electrical tools
Very good communication and interpersonal skills
Physical stamina and dexterity
High school diploma or equivalent
Able to bend, knell, sit, and stand for long periods of time
Moves heavy furniture, equipment, building components, and supplies, either manually, by using hand trucks, or by using other moving equipment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is often required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 2-50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must have the ability to bend, reach, kneel, climb, stretch, push, pull, etc. and have the ability to climb ladders and stairs, must be able to withstand heights. The employee is expected to work under all environmental and weather conditions to include heat, cold, rain; inside, and outside situations.
