Job Overview

Applies advanced IT professional concepts and campus objectives to identify solutions to highly complex issues across multiple areas of information technology specialization, providing technical leadership, project management, Software as a Service (SaaS) application management, business analysis, and product or service evolution planning; Independently researches and recommends solutions that require an in-depth evaluation of variable functional, technical, process, and policy factors. This position specializes in the administration of multiple campus-wide SaaS business productivity applications and requires a generalist with feet in both business and technical worlds. The successful candidate will apply strong analytical skills and an enthusiasm for investigation to master applications, research and recommend solutions, and solve complex problems with minimal supervision. This position is an integral member of a product team; manages vendor incident response; takes responsibility for and coordinates collaboration between client, vendor, product team, and UCSC technical specialists to assure a successful outcome for incidents, upgrades, and technical projects. In addition to collaboration with multiple teams, this position must also take a great deal of independent responsibility for daily operational management to assure stability, security, and functional fit of multiple SaaS applications.

Job Duties

30% -

• Serves as technical lead and technical project manager for multiple, complex SaaS information systems with campus-wide scope and impact. Leads cross functional technical teams to assure successful project outcomes and resolution of complex incidents and problems. Represents ITS with clients from all levels of UCSC administration. Understands and applies industry practices, community standards and department / unit policies and procedures in depth.

• Determines, manages, and communicates deliverables and priorities from technical, functional, and process requirements Ensures a unified approach and successful outcome. Plans and directs key activities for release to production. Aligns activities and expectations between clients, ITS engineers, and vendor technical staff.

30% -

• Independently manages multiple, highly complex SaaS applications using professional expertise and judgement in making operational decisions, recommendations, and escalations.

• Maintains a broad understanding of campus technical and functional requirements. Independently analyzes complex system configuration variables, determines impact of changes on university business, technical, data security, and integrated system requirements, and recommends courses of action. Identifies and analyzes problems, risks or inefficiencies and recommends technical or process changes. Provides advanced analysis to resolve complex incidents, determine root cause, and recommend mitigations.

• Creates and maintains technical documentation of system configurations, settings, policies and processes. Provides training, mentorship, direction, and oversight to other staff working on system administration tasks within the portfolio.

30% -

• Initiates, designs or modifies highly complex systems, processes and procedures where standardized policies or procedures may not exist. Performs highly complex analysis of functional, technical, and security needs, documents requirements, and translates requirements into proper system and process specifications. Synthesizes information from a wide variety of functional and technical specialists to recommend solid, sustainable and secure technical solutions. Develops documentation for highly complex small- and medium-size projects.

• Performs complex data management or resource research. Develops both conceptual and detailed data models for projects. Identifies and evaluates application integration solutions. May troubleshoot, modify or write scripts. Develops, documents and leads the test planning and execution.

10% -

• Informs and participates in strategic analysis and product roadmapping, lifecycle planning and prioritization. Researches, recommends and designs deployments and technology transitions for large and complex campus-wide adoptions. Maintains familiarity of evolving industry standards in business process, workflow, automation and collaboration technologies in the context of unique and changing university requirements and constraints.

ITS Security Statement

Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Broad knowledge of IT concepts. Ability to effectively communicate with IT specialists in areas including but not limited to: SSO, SAML, LDAP, authorization mechanisms, group management, networks and firewalls, application architecture, web based services, programming principles and methods, information security, and system integrations.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of responsibility. Ability to use professional judgement, technical expertise, and an understanding of service objectives to make operational decisions, set priorities, and to recognize situations requiring escalation.

Demonstrated technical project management skills for new system implementations, upgrades, module additions, and other complex production system changes. Experience leading teams of highly skilled information technology professionals, aligning them on objectives and process, and driving delivery of results.

Demonstrated ability to independently manage operations for multiple complex software systems. Understanding of how complex system configurations affect other systems, system users, data security, and dependent / related systems or functions. Ability to develop expert understanding of multiple complex application systems.

Demonstrated advanced incident and problem troubleshooting and resolution skills. Experience managing technical and vendor team response and resolution of complex incidents.

Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions, including requirements elicitation, functional and technical specification, solution research and evaluation, and fit/gap and risk analysis. Ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs.

Advanced verbal and written communication skills working with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit, communicate and document complex technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. Excellent customer service skills.

Experience with data management within and between applications. Familiarity with database design , data security, and system integration principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience administering Docusign, Perceptive Content, Qualtrics, Asana, Google, or Zoom.

• Experience with agile methodologies and concepts.

• Experience with scripting, programming, debugging, database querying or database design.

• Agile and/or Scrum.

• Business Analysis and/or Project Management.

• Technical classes or certifications.

• Lean / Six Sigma.
