Coordinator/Tech: Social Work/Counseling

Job Summary: Under general direction of the assigned administrator, work within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures to provide counseling and guidance to students and their families. Provide informational and support services to parents, teachers and administrators in order to promote a comprehensive decision-making process for student educational objectives development and school programming. The position is responsible for researching and developing grant funding sources; maintaining grant timelines; writing and submitting grant proposals; conducting grant evaluations; establishing partnerships with community based organizations; recruiting interns, work experience students, and volunteers; and assisting with public affairs activities. May exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level staff.

Please note that these are grant-funded positions that may be subject to lay off at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

One position will be assigned to the Suenos Department and will be located in Freedom, CA: Please note that this is a grant-funded position that may be subject to lay off at the end of the 2021-2022 school year but is currently being reviewed for renewal until 2025-2026.

Information for the Student Support Services Positions: The Santa Cruz County Office of Education is excited to recruit for a new team of education staff dedicated to supporting students, staff and families in the navigation and facilitation of mental health and substance use treatment services. Under a new 4-year grant funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), up to five new Guidance Counselor Tech IIs and one Project Coordinator will be created to form this essential case management cohort. 

Within the Student Support Services Department, it is expected that an expertise will develop over time regarding the resource offerings, eligibility and access protocols to all pertinent agencies, regardless of insurance type or ability to pay. Para-professional, social work oriented, support will be provided to referrals from school sites as appropriate and timely connection to long-term professionals in the field are established.  An alignment and integration, as much as possible, with existing offerings from non-profit agencies, county behavioral health, private practice entities, and insurance companies will be achieved through close collaboration with each.
